Chris Führich has rarely been in his best form in recent weeks. The nimble offensive player from VfB Stuttgart, threatened with relegation, made the wrong decisions too often. That earned him a place on the bench before the away game in the Bundesliga at FSV Mainz 05. In the all-important 4-1 (1-1) win for the Swabians, however, Führich immediately convinced after his substitution.
After Marcus Ingvartsen’s goal in Mainz to make it 1-0 (23rd minute) and Wataru Endo’s equalizer (41st), he prepared Serhou Guirassy’s 2-1 lead (64th) and then scored himself to make it 3: 1 (78th). “I came in great,” said Führich. “Thank God I was able to help the team. That’s exactly what I wanted to do.” The final decision was made by Tanguy Coulibaly, who also came on as a substitute (90. +1) – Führich was again involved as a template provider.
“We take the positive with us”
The Swabians have everything in their own hands before the last matchday on Saturday against the already rescued TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. “We take the positive with us,” said Führich. “That’s a very good momentum that we can take with us and next weekend we’ll do everything we can to make sure we stay up.”
