The Portuguese professional cyclist Joao Almeida clinched the day’s victory on the 16th stage of the Giro d’Italia from Sabbio Chiese over 203 kilometers up to Monte Bondone. The 24-year-old in the white jersey of the best young driver prevailed against Geraint Thomas in the uphill sprint. Meanwhile, the 36-year-old Brit regained the overall leader’s pink jersey, which Bruno Armirail had taken off after the 14th stage. However, the Frenchman lost 4:24 minutes to the top yesterday. Only 25 seconds behind, Primoz Roglic crossed the finish line at the mountain finish. The Slovenian is third overall behind Thomas and Almeida.
