For a long time you were the best German tennis player and in 1985 you were fourth in the world rankings. But then you overtook Steffi Graf and from then on you played in her shadow. Was that annoying?
I never compared myself to Steffi. Everyone brought out the best in themselves. I was in the top ten in the world rankings for five years, and I’m extremely proud of that. It was good for the national team to have such competition at home. Steffi not only overtook me, she left the whole world behind.
