The German retail company Lidl enters cycling as a main sponsor. As announced by the US-licensed racing team Trek-Segafredo, they will be operating under the name Lidl-Trek from June 30th.
The sponsorship includes both the men’s team around the Danish ex-world champion Mads Pedersen and the women’s team with the Italian stars Elisa Balsamo and Elisa Longo Borghini. The team did not name a term.
Lidl has been involved with the Belgian QuickStep team in the past. The deal with Trek should now be more extensive. The racing team emerged in 2014 from the former RadioShack team, which included Andreas Klöden, Jens Voigt and Linus Gerdemann. There are currently no German riders under contract with Trek; Olympic track champion Lisa Klein drives for the women.
