Lukas Reim had to cancel his A final at the Rowing World Championships in Belgrade on Friday:
The Salzburg player suffered severe bruises in a training accident on Thursday – a collision on the water. A start in the medal decision was therefore impossible. “He is in the form of his life and it is an incredible shame, but we also have to be happy that nothing more happened,” said national coach Robert Sens.
Magdalena Lobnig missed the A final as fourth in her semi-final run. The Carinthian still has a chance of getting a ticket to the Olympics, but to do so she has to finish in the top three in the B final on Sunday.
Austria’s eight with Fabian Gillhofer, Alexander Chernikov, Lorenz Lindorfer, Bruno Bachmair, Xaver Haider, Jakob Stadler, Michal Karlovsky, Gabriel Stekl and helmswoman Teresa Pellegrini also continue in the B final. The crew came fifth in yesterday’s intermediate heat. “They didn’t really get out of the starting blocks,” analyzed Sens.
