There is further trouble at the Bundesliga soccer club FSV Mainz 05 regarding Anwar El Ghazi. After a pro-Palestinian post and an alleged clarification of the incident between the club and the player, the professional is now following up.

New fuss about professional footballer Anwar El Ghazi from Bundesliga club FSV Mainz 05. After the striker was recently suspended because of a pro-Palestinian post and, according to the club, was pardoned on Monday after several clarifying discussions, the 28-year-old is now taking to Instagram again – and indirectly accuses his employer of lying.

He wrote literally: “I regret nothing and have no remorse about my stance. I do not distance myself from what I said and stand today, always and until my last breath, for humanity and for the oppressed.”

Mainz 05, however, said on Monday that El Ghazi had “distanced himself from his post on his Instagram channel” in discussions with the board and that he “regrets the publication of the post and its negative impact.”

The Dutch-Moroccan footballer now announced that the club’s statement had not been agreed with him and was “factually incorrect” – an affront to the club’s management.

The Bundesliga club responded to the allegations with a statement. This was noted “with surprise and incomprehension,” it said. “The club will examine the matter legally and then evaluate it.”

The starting point for the conflict was a post from October 15th in which El Ghazi wrote, among other things, the slogan “From the river to the sea: Palestine will be free.” By demanding that Palestine be expanded from the Jordan to the Mediterranean, Israel is denied its right to exist.

It remains to be seen whether the players and the club will find each other again. For the club, the “commitment of its employees to the canon of values” is a prerequisite for cooperation. This includes “a special responsibility towards the State of Israel and the Jewish people”.j

According to Mainz 05, Anwar El Ghazi is currently on sick leave and is not taking part in training.
