The half-time leader Petra Vlhova finished with a mega lead (1.06 seconds) in the Levi slalom on Sunday and missed her third double at the magical winter venue. Shiffrin celebrated her seventh Levi victory ahead of Leona Popovic (+0.18) from Croatia and the German Lena Dürr (+0.30). The ÖSV women were unable to confirm their previous day’s performance. Katharina Liensberger landed in eighth place (+1.41).
Shiffrin competed with a lesion on his left knee after a bad fall in training. After sixth place in Sölden and fourth place in the first Levi race, the US ski icon accepted the surprising 100 points gratefully but with humility. “Petra’s performance this weekend was a lesson. She was so far ahead, in my opinion she deserved this win.”
Behind Liensberger, who had led the collective liberation effort on Saturday by finishing third on the podium, Katharina Huber (11th/+1.94) was again Austria’s number two. The Austrians didn’t like the rotating first run with large goal gaps. The second was more straightforward – and promptly resulted in an increase in the performance of many ÖSV aces. Marie-Therese Sporer used the light advantage of her previous number to set a career best (13th). The Tyrolean, who dropped out of the ÖSV squad, had not been better than 16th.
Katharina Gallhuber (22nd) also scored points on her comeback weekend and Franziska Gritsch (26th). Katharina Troupe came back with a considerable deficit in the first section. Stephanie Brunner, Lisa Hörhager and Nina Astner failed to qualify for the final of the best 30.
