Jannik Sinner is considered the secret favorite at the ATP finals. In the first game he more than fulfills this role.
The Italian Jannik Sinner made a successful start to the ATP finals. The local hero clearly won the opening match of this year’s event of the eight best tennis professionals of the year against the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas 6:4, 6:4 and thus took a first step towards the semi-finals.
In the second game of the first day, defending champion Novak Djokovic from Serbia and the young Danish star Holger Rune, trained by Boris Becker, will meet in the evening from 9 p.m. (Sky). Alexander Zverev only gets involved this Monday.
The Olympic champion will face Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz from Spain in his opening game from 2:30 p.m. (Sky). Other opponents in the preliminary round are the two Russians Daniil Medvedev and Andrei Rublev.
Sinner was the more dominant player from the start in the packed Pala Alpitour in Turin. The 22-year-old served well and didn’t miss a single break point in the entire game.
Tsitsipas, who had started the game slightly injured, lost his serve once in both sets and had to admit defeat after 1:25 hours. Sinner converted his first match point with an ace and was then loudly celebrated by the Italian fans.
