Bundesliga bottom club Austria Lustenau has placed its head coach Markus Mader on leave with immediate effect. The football club from Vorarlberg announced this on Monday. Sports coordinator Alexander Schneider and amateur coach Momo Gerdi will look after the team on an interim basis until the winter break and the presentation of a successor.

As the club stated in a press release, after a long and intensive analysis, it was with a heavy heart that they came to the decision to part ways with Mader, who was responsible for promotion to the Bundesliga in 2022. “We have a lot to thank Markus for, and he will always play a formative role in the history of SC Austria Lustenau. However, the results and developments of the season so far have now prompted us to take this step. Because of his special character, we are all in This step was definitely not easy for the club and we struggled a lot with ourselves,” explained board spokesman Bernd Bösch. He thanked Mader for his work and wished the 55-year-old all the best for future tasks.

Mader moved from Dornbirn to Lustenau in the summer of 2021 with assistant coach Martin Schneider, who also has to leave the club. In their first season they won the championship title in the second division with Austria and celebrated their return to the Bundesliga. Last season they finished in eighth place. The club is currently five points behind WSG Tirol at the bottom of the table with just three points from 14 games.
