Alpine skiing: women’s downhill run on the Matterhorn canceled

The lifts could not go into operation as planned in the morning, the program including the sightseeing was initially postponed and the race was rescheduled at 12.30 p.m. At 10:15 a.m. there was a final decision with the cancellation. Another departure is scheduled for Sunday at 11.45 a.m. (live ORF 1).

“It’s stormy, the gondola ride was pretty exciting. The slope itself was good, but because of the wind it’s not rideable,” said ÖSV head coach Roland Assinger. The next attempt is planned for Sunday. “I’m always positive, and I’ll convey that to the racers so that we can try it again. Get a good night’s sleep, then look out the window in the morning and hope that it’ll work out at some point. The organizers really deserve it. ” The athletes are professionals enough to be able to handle such situations, he added.

Last week, the men were only able to complete one training session on their Matterhorn excursion; the other planned runs and the two downhill runs were canceled due to wind or snowfall. So far, only one out of three training sessions has been possible for women. In the previous season, none of the races could take place for women or men.
