Handball European Championship: Hanning believes in German victory: “We have the possibilities”

Germany’s handball players are clear outsiders in the European Championship semi-finals against Denmark. Bob Hanning still sees opportunities and talks about the likelihood of success.

Bob Hanning sees Germany’s handball players as having no chance in the semi-final duel with overwhelming Denmark. “We have 20,000 fans behind us. We also have the playing possibilities, but our top performers have to function completely,” said the former DHB vice president of the German Press Agency and added with regard to the probability of victory: “It’s in ten games maybe 1.5 times possible.”

The team of national coach Alfred Gislason goes into the European Championship semi-finals against the Scandinavian world champions in Cologne today as clear outsiders. The star ensemble led by Füchse star Mathias Gidsel won the last four clashes. The last German victory to date dates back to 2016. “At some point every series has to break,” said Hanning (55).

It is important not to make yourself small before a game against the overwhelming favorites from Denmark. “Yes, it’s a huge challenge. But we also have players who have played a key role in determining the Champions League or the European League in recent years. We have the opportunity to do that. We don’t have a chance,” said Hanning.
