The Swiss was the clear favorite in Bansko on Saturday ahead of the Norwegian Alexander Steen Olsen (+0.91 seconds) and Manuel Feller (+1.08). Stefan Brennsteiner achieved his best result of the season in fourth place (+1.29). For Odermatt it was the 34th World Cup victory.
The dominant overall World Cup leader has maintained nine victories in giant slalom across all seasons. The last time the Italian Tomba achieved so many in one discipline was in the slalom between January 1994 and January 1995. The Italian was also present in Bansko on Saturday like other ski legends. In the Discipline World Cup, 26-year-old Odermatt increased his lead over Croatian Filip Zubcic (9th) to 286 points. “Absolutely fantastic, I love it here, it’s different to other races. My confidence is at the highest level,” said Odermatt.

Feller again without giant slalom training
Feller was once again unable to complete giant slalom training and simply wanted to concentrate on racing. The different slope conditions on the steep slope didn’t allow for a good feeling in the first run, but he was still fast. Recently, Feller was suffering from a hazelnut allergy, but his nose and sinuses had improved, he explained before the race.
Raphael Haaser improved from 28th to 20th place with his best running time, Patrick Feustein from 23 to 21. “In the second round it was skiing, in the first round it was the first week of ski course,” said Haaser. That looked really bad, he had to admit. Dominik Raschner (39th) and Fabio Gstrein (46th) did not qualify for the second round, Joshua Sturm and Noel Zwischenbrugger were eliminated.
