The Argentine tennis player Sebastián Báez, champion last Sunday at the ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro, will face the Spanish Pedro Martínez today in one of the semifinals of the ATP 250 in Santiago, Chile.

Báez, ranked 21st in the ATP world ranking, will play before 7:30 p.m. against Martínez (101), a rival with whom he lost twice, once in the final of the ATP in Santiago in 2022, and the other in the ATP from Pune, India, in 2023.

The tennis player born 23 years ago in Billinghurst, in the Buenos Aires match of San Martín, has accumulated seven consecutive victories, the five that gave him the title in Rio and two more in Chile, against the Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas (119) and the Spanish Jaume Munar (70).

In the case of advancing to the final, Báez, who in addition to Rio was champion of four other tournaments in his career (Estoril 2022, Córdoba Open, Kitzbuhel and Winston Salem, all three in 2023), will play this Sunday against the winner of the another “semi” that will be animated by the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo (51) and the French Corentin Moutet (140).

The ATP 250 in Santiago, Chile, takes place on clay courts and will award a total of $742,350 in prize money.

The competition closes the South American tour on clay, which was very beneficial for Argentine tennis players, with a finalist in the Córdoba Open (Facundo Bagnis) and two champions, Facundo Díaz Acosta in the Argentina Open and the aforementioned Báez title in Rio of Janeiro.
