Winter sports: Biathlete Preuß is also missing from the World Cup finals in Canada

Franziska Preuß’s story of suffering never ends. The former relay world champion is also not taking part in the last Biathlon World Cup of the season in Canada.

Former biathlon world champion Franziska Preuß will no longer compete in any races this winter. As the German Ski Association announced, the Bavarian will also miss the World Cup finals starting Thursday in Canmore, Canada, following the consequences of an infection and a minor surgical procedure.

“Unfortunately, my season is over early. If there’s one good thing about it, it’s that I was able to celebrate my birthday yesterday with family and friends,” wrote Preuß and added: “Looking forward.” The athlete turned 30 on Monday.

Preuss’ story of suffering continues. During the course of the season, a corona infection and other infection symptoms had already forced her to take breaks. She was also recently thwarted in Oslo and in Soldier Hollow/USA. Preuß had started the season optimally and even briefly secured the yellow jersey for the lead in the overall World Cup in Östersund, Sweden, in December. But she immediately lost this again due to a forced break. She was also unable to compete in the women’s relay at the World Championships in Nove Mesto in February due to illness. Without the final runner who was actually seeded, the German quartet still received bronze.

Preuß had to end the previous season early due to persistent health problems and therefore missed the home World Cup in Oberhof, Thuringia. “Now I’m really strong mentally, I’m looking positively into the future and I’m looking forward to focusing on training and preparing for the new season again soon,” said Preuß.
