The representatives of the Olympic Committee of each member country participated virtually in the vote and the Peruvian capital was elected with 28 votes in favor out of 52 at stake.

The Pan American Sports Organization (Panam Sports) decided on January 3 to withdraw the designation of Barranquilla, Colombia, as the venue for the 2027 Pan American Games. The reason behind this action has been the failure of the Colombian National Government to pay 8 million dollars, a figure necessary to maintain the headquarters allocation, according to previous stipulations.
