Behind the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Panam Sports Organization, which took place in Miami, Lima was chosen as the venue for the 20th edition of the Pan American Games which will be developed in 2027.
The representatives of the Olympic Committee of each member country participated virtually in the vote and the Peruvian capital was elected with 28 votes in favor out of 52 at stake.

For its part, Paraguay was represented by the president of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, Camilo Pérez López Moreirawho mentioned the benefits of his nation being elected: “Paraguay is a safe country, a modern and very democratic country, where our governments fulfill their mandates, are firm and, above all, our president Griefhas its constitutional mandate until August 2028.” Likewise, the president of the Guaraní country also participated, Santiago Pena; the former olympic athlete, Larissa Schaerer; the general secretary of the Paraguayan committee, Juan Carlos Orihuela; already Cesar RamirezMinister of Sports of Paraguay.
Both countries presented their budget for the Pan American Games 2027, Peru allocated US$369 million to improve the facilities that were already done for 2019, in addition to making expansions. For its part, Paraguay had allocated US$316 million.
The Pan American Sports Organization (Panam Sports) decided on January 3 to withdraw the designation of Barranquilla, Colombia, as the venue for the 2027 Pan American Games. The reason behind this action has been the failure of the Colombian National Government to pay 8 million dollars, a figure necessary to maintain the headquarters allocation, according to previous stipulations.
