The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgohe declared during a visit to Ukraine that the athletes of Russia and Belarus “they are not welcome” in the Olympic Games which will be held in the French capital between July 26 and August 11, according to a video published this Saturday.
“I want to tell the Russian and Belarusian athletes that they are not welcome in Paris and express to the Ukrainian athletes and the entire Ukrainian people that we support them very actively, very strongly”the mayor of Paris told the press, in statements published by the Ukrainian YouTube channel United News.
Hidalgo, who is active in the Socialist Party, visited a training center for Ukrainian athletes during his trip to kyiv.
The Russians and Belarusians, who will participate in the Olympic Games under a neutral flag, will not march in the opening ceremony, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on March 19.
This new restriction imposed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, with the complicity of Belarus, outraged Moscow, which accused the IOC of “discrimination” and “neo-Nazism.”
