The Fischtown Pinguins have come a little closer to their first ice hockey championship. At the start of the DEL final series, the surprise team defies the nine-time champions Eisbären Berlin.
The Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven have taken the first step towards their title premiere in the German Ice Hockey League. The surprise team of the season won the first game of the final series against the former series champion Eisbären Berlin 4:2 (2:2, 2:0, 0:0).
The second game of the best-of-seven series will take place in Berlin on Friday (7:30 p.m./MagentaSport and DF1). Four wins are necessary to win the title.
The match winners for the Pinguins were defender Lukas Kälble with three scorer points and attacker Ross Mauermann, who scored a dream goal to make it 2-2 and set up the fourth goal. Bremerhaven, which had already surprisingly won the main round, is contesting its first ever final series. The Eisbären, on the other hand, are already aiming for their tenth DEL title and are playing in the 13th final series in the club’s history.
