FC Bayern still doesn’t have a coach for the coming season. Lothar Matthäus considers a former Munich defender to be a suitable candidate.
In the search for a coach at FC Bayern, TV expert Lothar Matthäus considers former Munich player Martin Demichelis to be a possible candidate.
“He’s successful. I know that he has a good approach, that’s why I like the name,” said the record national soccer player on the pay channel Sky. The 43-year-old Demichelis is currently the coach of River Plate in his native Argentina. Before that, he was a professional at Bayern for more than seven years and later returned to Munich as a youth coach.
“He has a Bayern past, has won titles, is well received by the players,” said Matthäus about the former defender. The 62-year-old praised Demichelis for his clear statements and emphasized that he had the Bayern gene. However, Matthäus also pointed out that the Munich club leadership might prefer an older coach as Thomas Tuchel’s successor. “He’s not that mature and experienced yet,” Matthäus said of Demichelis.
After the cancellations of Leverkusen’s master coach Xabi Alonso and national coach Julian Nagelsmann, Bayern are still looking for a head coach for the coming season. Tuchel had recently ruled out staying beyond his agreed departure at the end of the season. “We are very final and will hopefully be able to announce something soon,” said Bayern sports director Max Eberl about the status of the coaching search before the 5-1 win at 1. FC Union Berlin.
