“Flaco” was the coach of the Argentine National Team that won the 1978 World Cup and the 1979 U-20 World Cup in Japan.

The coach of the National Team, Lionel Scaloni, arrived this Tuesday morning in Argentine territory along with Samuel, Pablo Aimar and Roberto Ayala, his assistants, to attend Menotti’s wake.

Scaloni was scheduled to be in Argentina in the coming days, but given the death of “Flaco”, the native of Pujato decided to advance his trip to say his last goodbye.

Menotti was key in the coach’s cycle in charge of the team, since he was the one who chose him to occupy the position and gave him his support when his work was questioned at the beginning.

The president of Huracán, David Garzón, was present at the AFA grounds to say goodbye to the historic coach and assured that his death is “a sadness for all the Quemero people and for all Argentine football.”

“A great man left us, but as Ángel Cappa said, the greats never die and will always continue to be with us. It is pure Huracán, it is identity,” he added in dialogue with TyC Sports.

Regarding a possible tribute, the president did not anticipate anything: “There are things planned. We have many things to do, we want to be in accordance with how great Flaco was in Huracán. We have a suspension of the entry of flags due to some flares. We are talking to the security people so that there is an exception on the weekend to be able to do something really big.

“Menotti means a lot to the history of Huracán. When you think of Flaco, all you have to say is thank you. What he gave us, the legacy he left us, the philosophy. It is pure Huracán, it is identity. The entire ‘quemero’ people “It’s very sad,” he said.
