Ice Hockey World Cup: After Latvia’s victory: German national team in the quarter-finals

The German national ice hockey team reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in the Czech Republic despite having no games on Sunday. The team of national coach Harold Kreis can no longer be pushed out of the first four places in Group B after Latvia’s 3:2 (1:0, 0:0, 1:2) penalty shootout against Slovakia.

Possible quarter-final opponents are the hosts Czech Republic, Canada or Switzerland. The vice world champion reached the knockout rounds for the fifth time in a row at the World Cup in Ostrava and Prague.

The selection of the German Ice Hockey Association will meet France at the end of the group phase on Tuesday (12.20 p.m./ProSieben and MagentaSport). The quarterfinals will take place on Thursday in Prague and Ostrava.
