After the championship: FC Bayern women celebrate on the town hall balcony

Munich’s mayor honors the FC Bayern footballers for a “super season” without defeat. Coach Straus’ team presents itself with the trophy, the coach extends it.

The Mayor of Munich, Dieter Reiter, honored the FC Bayern footballers for winning the championship again at a reception in the town hall.

The Bundesliga team led by coach Alexander Straus and captain Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir also appeared in front of several hundred Bayern fans and tourists with the championship trophy on the town hall balcony. At the same time, FC Bayern was able to announce the extension of Straus’ contract until 2026.

“I congratulate from the bottom of my heart. It was a great season. You didn’t lose a game, that’s something that rarely happens in football, actually never,” said Reiter in his appreciation of the team. “I would like to keep quiet about any references to men’s sports,” Reiter added humorously, referring to the men’s champion Bayer Leverkusen, who were the first Bundesliga team to achieve this feat this year.

“It is a good tradition that a German champion team goes out onto the balcony and presents itself with the championship trophy,” said Reiter. In the presence of club president Herbert Hainer and CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, the 66-year-old expressed his hope that he would be able to honor FC Bayern’s men’s and women’s teams as champions again next year.

Hainer: “These women and girls inspire”

“There is no doubt that this team more than deserves it. A masterful season, no defeat, 19 wins, three draws, seven points ahead of second-placed Wolfsburg – and one point more than in the previous season. These numbers say it all,” said Hainer in his speech. “These women and girls also have an impact beyond the pitch, they inspire.” The players are role models for others. “Defending the title for a third time in a row is a tremendous incentive,” said Hainer when looking ahead to the coming season. “We are proud of you,” concluded the 69-year-old.

The Bayern women received the championship trophy on Whit Monday after the team won 4-1 at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on the 22nd and final Bundesliga matchday. Coach Straus will remain with the Munich team and the coach has now extended his contract. “This is a very proud moment for me to be able to extend my contract here at FC Bayern. I am firmly convinced of the project that we started here two years ago. We are on a very good path, but we still have a lot of potential ” said the Norwegian.
