All players are there, but the weather is lousy. When the heavy rain in Blankenhain subsides, Julian Nagelsmann calls for standard training. Three German champions are also on the pitch.

For the first time in the European Championship preparations, Julian Nagelsmann was able to train with 24 players from his squad – including captain Ilkay Gündogan and the three German champions Florian Wirtz, Robert Andrich and Jonathan Tah.

The national football team’s training session on the training ground at the Weimarer Land golf resort started in pouring rain. Two groups initially did warm-up exercises, and later the focus was to be on standards.

Leipzig left-back David Raum, who has recently been injured, was part of the first group. Gündogan and the trio from Bayer Leverkusen had come to Blankenhain the day before. National coach Nagelsmann had given them a few days off.

Nagelsmann was not afraid of the torrential rain and, in a visibly good mood, joined goalkeeper Oliver Baumann in goal kick training with standard coach Mads Buttgereit. Later in the day, the national players will be prepared for collective stress situations by a special police task force in preparation for the European Championship.

Five European Championship professionals were still missing from training. The four participants in the Champions League final on Saturday in London, Niclas Füllkrug and Nico Schlotterbeck from Borussia Dortmund and Toni Kroos and Antonio Rüdiger from Real Madrid, are not expected in Herzogenaurach until next week. Goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is due to arrive in Franconia on Monday.
