Six years after her European Championship title in Berlin, Gesa Krause is back on the podium at the European Championships. In Rome, she ran to silver after her maternity leave.
Gesa Felicitas Krause won silver at the European Athletics Championships. The 31-year-old was only beaten by Alice Finot in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the first international championships after her maternity leave in Rome.
The Frenchwoman won in 9:16.22 minutes, a European best time of the year, ahead of Krause, who finished in 9:18.06 minutes. Third place went to Britain’s Elizabeth Bird (9:18.39).
After the titles in 2018 and 2016, Krause from Trier was also happy with silver after her maternity leave. European Championship runner-up Lea Meyer (Leverkusen) came ninth. U23 European champion Olivia Gürth (Trier) came eleventh. All three German runners have already achieved the Olympic standard.
