The global players’ union FIFPRO has filed a legal complaint against world football’s governing body, FIFA. The focus is on the new Club World Cup and the number of games there are per season.

The World Players Union FIFPRO filed a legal claim against world football’s governing body, the FIFAas reported this Thursday by the entity that brings together the footballers.

In May, the FIFA said he would not consider rescheduling his Club World Cup of 32 teams after the aforementioned union and the World Association of Leagues (WLAfor its acronym in English) threatened legal action if they did not review their plans.

“The member unions of FIFPRO Europe have today filed a legal complaint against FIFA, questioning the legality of FIFA’s decisions to unilaterally establish the International Match Calendar and, in particular, the decision to create and schedule the Club World Cup. of FIFA 2025,” he said in a statement.

Likewise, he added: “Players’ unions believe that these decisions violate the rights of footballers and their unions under the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, and could also violate EU competition law.”
