Bryson DeChambeau storms to the top before the final of the 124th US Open. For Stephan Jäger and Martin Kaymer, the third day of the golf major in Pinehurst is not so successful.

LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau has the best chances of winning his second US Open title. The 30-year-old American played a strong round of 67 in Pinehurst and took the lead in the third major tournament of the year with a total of 203 strokes.

Second-placed Matthieu Pavon from France, Northern Ireland’s golf star Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay from the USA are each three strokes behind the 2020 US Open winner before the final round. DeChambeau earns his money on the controversial LIV Tour, which is financed by Saudi Arabia.

Stephan Jäger lost touch with the leaders on the third day on the difficult par-70 course in the US state of North Carolina. After two rounds of 70, the 35-year-old from Munich needed 73 strokes on Saturday and fell from 16th to joint 20th place with a total of 213 strokes.

Things went even worse for former US Open winner Martin Kaymer on day three. The 39-year-old professional from Mettmann only played a round of 77 and slipped to a shared 61st place with a total of 220 strokes. Ten years ago, Kaymer was the only German to win the US Open on the Pinehurst No.2 golf course, securing the second major title of his career. The US Open triumph, however, was to remain Kaymer’s last individual title to date. In 2022, he joined the LIV Tour like DeChambeau.

World number one Scottie Scheffler from the USA, who has been playing so outstandingly recently, was only in joint 42nd place with 216 strokes before the final round. The 48-year-old US superstar Tiger Woods had already missed the cut after two days and was eliminated early.
