Jannik Sinner loses a set but then safely advances to the quarterfinals at the tennis tournament in Halle.

Top favorite Jannik Sinner is in the quarterfinals of the tennis tournament in Halle, Westphalia. The world number one from Italy won his round of 16 match against the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan 6:4, 6:7 (4:7), 6:3. Sinner (22) needed 2 hours 15 minutes for his success at the Terra Wortmann Open.

After losing the second set, he quickly made things clear in the third, even though he lost another service game when the score was 5:1. The Australian Open champion could now face Jan-Lennard Struff on Friday. Struff will play against the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas on Thursday evening.

Hubert Hurkacz also made it to the quarterfinals. The Pole, who won the German grass court classic in 2022, beat Australian qualifier James Duckworth 7:6 (7:3), 6:4. Hurkacz served 17 aces.
