Alexander Zverev once again has to work hard in Halle. But in the end he fights through again – and is in the semifinals.
Alexander Zverev has reached the semifinals of the grass tournament in Halle, Westphalia. The Olympic tennis champion won his quarterfinals at the Terra Wortmann Open against Frenchman Arthur Fils after a tough fight with 6:7 (5:7), 6:3, 6:4 and can therefore continue to dream of his first title in Halle. In 2016 and 2017, the Hamburg native lost in the finals.
Zverev converted his third match point against Fils after 2:30 hours. In the semifinals on Saturday he will face Hubert Hurkacz from Poland, who beat the American Marcos Giron 7:6 (7:5), 6:4.
Late Friday afternoon, Jan-Lennard Struff also has a chance of reaching the semi-finals. The 34-year-old from Warsteiner will play against world number one Jannik Sinner from Italy.
