Something is brewing – that was the impression one had during a visit to Berlin’s Breitscheidplatz on Kurfürstendamm hours before kick-off of the second ÖFB group match against Poland. The place where the fans of the Austrian national team had already set up their base camp that morning.

Don’t worry: At football matches involving the ÖFB team, things are always peaceful in the fan camp. But while at home in Austria, fan mile events were being cancelled one after the other due to the threat of bad weather, a thunderstorm was also in the air in Berlin in the early afternoon. And all sorts of other smells were also present – from langos to beer and sweat.

The typical Austrian music mix of Musikantenstadl, Schlager and Hitparade was also not missing – from Josh to Andreas Gabalier to Rainhard Fendrich. People speak and sing Austrian at the mix of beer tent, fair and après-ski party at the end of June. And all on a continuous loop.
