Another frustration for Mascherano: Brighton won’t give Barco up for Paris 2024

By decision of the Brighton & Hove Albion, Valentine Boat will not have official authorization to participate in the Olympic Games of Paris 2024.

The English club decided not to release the former Boca full-back and joins the absences of Emiliano “Draw” Martinez, Enzo Fernandez and Alan Varela.

The absence of Barco leaves an important void in the defense of the team led by Javier Mascherano, since he was one of the figures, and now he must find a suitable replacement within the shortlist of 50 players.

Brighton have decided to align themselves with other Premier League clubs, prioritising the domestic season over loaning their players to national teams for the Olympic tournament.

This policy represents a significant challenge for the Argentine team. The Olympic competition, although prestigious, does not force clubs to release their players, which complicates planning.

For Mascherano, Barco’s loss means adjusting his defensive strategy. With the squad list shrinking, the coach will have to carefully evaluate the options available to maintain the team’s strength in a high-level tournament.

The preselection of 50 players will be essential to find alternatives to make up for the absences and ensure competitive performance in Paris.

It is relevant to mention that Barco has a current contract with Brighton until June 2028, which reinforces the club’s decision to retain him.
