A man climbed onto the roof of the stadium during the European Championship match in Dortmund. The police had to bring him down again. The motive of the 21-year-old from Osnabrück is initially unclear.

During the European Championship round of 16 match between Germany and Denmark in Dortmund, a man climbed onto the roof of the Westfalenstadion and had to be brought down by the police. Police approached the man during the match between Germany and Denmark “to ensure that he was safely transported away,” Dortmund police said on Saturday.

The game had to be temporarily interrupted due to a thunderstorm in Dortmund. In the 35th minute, the English referee Michael Oliver stopped the match between Germany and Denmark. The game was able to resume around 25 minutes later.

The European Championship climber has already been identified

The climber is a 21-year-old from Osnabrück, police announced on Sunday morning. The man has been arrested. So far there is no evidence that the 21-year-old wanted to endanger the stadium visitors, they said.

Emergency services approached the man in the stadium and spoke to him. A helicopter also illuminated the stadium roof. At no point was there any danger to other people.

According to police reports, the man had already reached the roof of the stadium at 10:27 p.m. The police were initially unable to provide any information about his motive. It was also initially unclear how he got onto the roof.
