European Football Championship: Streamlined daily programme: The countdown to the Spain match

The last few hours before the European Championship quarter-final against Spain are carefully planned for the national team. Compared to the Denmark duel, the national coach has less time.

The early kick-off time at 6 p.m. means that Julian Nagelsmann has a tight matchday schedule in preparation for the European Championship quarter-final against Spain. As with the most recent 9 p.m. games, the breakfast buffet for the national football players is available until 10 a.m.

The national coach then invites everyone to a final meeting, where the focus is once again on the plans for standard situations. This is followed by what is known as activation, which means moderate physical activity, usually with gymnastics or exercises on fitness equipment.

About 18 kilometers to the stadium

Lunch is scheduled for 12.30 p.m. in the team hotel at Stuttgart Airport. Anyone who wants to replenish their energy reserves can do so at 2.30 p.m. with the so-called pre-match meal. At 3.30 p.m., Nagelsmann will give final instructions before the team bus sets off on the 18-kilometer journey to the stadium.

In contrast to the group match against Hungary (2:0), this time the DFB team is not staying in the hotel in the city center, which was also the domicile for the third place match at the 2006 World Cup, but in a hotel at the airport. As the formal home team according to UEFA’s scheduling, the Spaniards were allowed to choose their hotel first, leaving the DFB with only second choice.
