Lando Norris starts his home Grand Prix with the first fastest time in practice. His friend Max Verstappen finished fourth – albeit with the slowest tires.
After the row with world champion Max Verstappen in Spielberg, World Championship pursuer Lando Norris set the fastest lap at the start of his home Grand Prix. The 24-year-old Briton finished the one-hour session on the Silverstone circuit in first place. Norris relegated Canadian Lance Stroll in the Aston Martin to second place, with Norris’ Formula 1 teammate Oscar Piastri coming in third.
However, the Australian had to end the training early due to a hydraulic problem with his car. Max Verstappen came fourth in the first free practice session for the British Grand Prix, using the hard and therefore slowest tire compound. The three-time world champion from the Netherlands drove his Red Bull 0.309 seconds slower than Norris, with whom he had recently clashed in the race in Austria.
Norris initially demanded an apology, but a few days later in Silverstone he stressed that it was not necessary and that everything was fine again. Verstappen stressed how important his friendship with Norris was to him. In the standings, the defending champion has 81 points more than Norris in second place.
On the track, Spielberg winner George Russell came in fifth in his Mercedes, while teammate and record world champion Lewis Hamilton came in seventh. Nico Hülkenberg came in eleventh in his Haas.
