World champion Max Verstappen cannot win the British Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton manages to do so – with a record.
Record world champion Lewis Hamilton has won the Formula 1 race in Silverstone. The Mercedes driver won his home race in Great Britain ahead of world champion Max Verstappen in the Red Bull and Lando Norris in the McLaren.
For the 39-year-old Briton Hamilton, it was the 104th victory of his career after a long dry spell of 945 days and his ninth triumph at Silverstone. No other driver has ever triumphed nine times on the same track in the premier class of motorsport.
In a turbulent Grand Prix with rain showers and at times difficult conditions, defending champion Verstappen from the Netherlands extended his comfortable World Championship lead over Norris. Haas driver Nico Hülkenberg drove his racing car to sixth place and scored points for the second time in a row.
