Both the women and the men are travelling to Paris with great expectations. Three players from each of the 17-strong squads are designated as reserves.
The German Olympic Sports Confederation has confirmed the men’s and women’s squads for the Olympic handball tournaments. The team of national coach Alfred Gislason is led by goalkeeper Andreas Wolff, who is already experiencing his third Summer Games after 2016 and 2021. For captain Johannes Golla, director Juri Knorr and center Jannik Kohlbacher, it is their second Olympic participation. The women are taking part for the first time since 2008 in Beijing.
“We are coming to Paris with strong teams. No one from our teams is travelling to the Olympic Games without hopes of a medal,” said DHB sports director Axel Kromer. 14 players have been nominated for the start of the Olympic tournaments. Three active players are available as reserves.
Three reservists each
For the men, these will currently be goalkeeper Joel Birlehm, left winger Rune Dahmke and pivot Justus Fischer. The final confirmation of the squad must be made on July 26. The registration deadline for the women is July 24. The reserve players currently planned are goalkeeper Dinah Eckerle, right winger Amelie Berger and backcourt player Mia Zschocke.
The DHB women will face South Korea, Sweden, Slovenia, Denmark and Norway in the preliminary round. The men will face Sweden, Japan, Croatia, Spain and Slovenia.
