Tennis: Rybakina speeds into the Wimbledon semi-finals

Jelena Rybakina goes into the Wimbledon semifinals as the favorite to win the tournament. A German tennis player has so far annoyed her the most in the tournament.

Kazakh tennis player Jelena Rybakina is two wins away from her second Wimbledon triumph. The world number four from Kazakhstan dominated her confident 6:3, 6:2 victory in the quarterfinals against the Ukrainian Jelina Switolina and thus moved into the semifinals again in southwest London. After just 61 minutes, her victory was a done deal.

In the semifinals, Rybakina will face Barbora Krejcikova on Thursday. The Czech won the duel between two former French Open winners 6:4, 7:6 (7:4) against Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia.

In 2022, Rybakina celebrated her title win at Wimbledon and her only Grand Slam success to date. In this year’s tournament, Swabian Laura Siegemund was the only one to win a set against her, but she had to admit defeat.

“I have such great memories of 2022,” said the 25-year-old Rybakina. She doesn’t like being the favorite, but of course she wants to follow her path to the end at Wimbledon.

In the other semi-final, Italian French Open finalist Jasmine Paolini and Croatian Donna Vekic will play for a place in the final. The title will be awarded on Saturday.
