Alfio “Coco” BasileRacing idol and former coach of the Argentine National Team, had to be admitted to a rehabilitation center after suffer a stroke and be diagnosed with vascular dementia.

Basile80 years old, is in a clinic specializing in neurorehabilitation to treat some cognitive problems that have been triggered recently.

This is not the first time he has suffered a stroke, as in 2017 had a ACV ischemic attack for which he had to remain under observation for several days.

As a coach, “Coco” was a two-time Copa América champion in 1991 and 1993 with the Argentine national team. He was also the champion of the 1988 Super Cup with Racing and won another 5 titles with Boca.

What is vascular dementia?

Vascular dementia is the second most common diagnosis after Alzheimer’s and can develop alone or alongside another form of dementia. It can also be caused by other problems that impede blood flow and oxygen delivery to the brain, such as narrowing of the arteries, according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.

Some of the causes of this may be uncontrolled and untreated hypertension or diabetes, high cholesterol for many years of life, or frequent increases in heart rate.
