Saudi Arabia will host the inaugural edition of the Olympic Games eSports in 2025as announced on Friday by the International Olympic Committee.
He IOC indicated that the association with the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Saudi will last for 12 years.
The decision will be ratified at the session of the IOC which will be held on the eve of the Paris Olympicsafter which work will begin on selecting a host city for the inaugural edition.
“We are very fortunate to be able to work with the Saudi NOC on the eSports Olympics, because they have a wealth of experience – if not unique – in the field of eSports with all its stakeholders.”said the president of the IOC, Thomas Bachit’s a statement.
“The Olympic eSports Games will benefit greatly from this experience”he added.
He IOC has been studying the eSports and has formed a commission dedicated to seeking opportunities. In 2021developed the Olympic Virtual Series, a pilot venture in eSports.
“We are a young nation, with more than 23 million players”said the prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al FaisalSaudi Minister of Sports. “Our kingdom has become a global hub for professional esports (…). This is the natural next step for our young athletes, our country and the global esports community.”he commented on the matter.

Last year, Saudi Arabia launched a eSports World Cup annual, whose first edition is currently being held in Riyadh from July 3 to August 25.
Saudi Arabia has invested large amounts of money in sports such as soccerthe Formula 1he boxing and the Golfand critics have accused the country of engaging in a “sports facelift” for its human rights record. The kingdom denies allegations of human rights abuses.
