In France, Dennis Schröder wants an Olympic medal. It could be his first and last chance.
World champion captain Dennis Schröder is about to take part in his first and possibly last Olympic Games. “I don’t know if I’ll still be there in four years,” said the 30-year-old. After the clear friendly win against the Netherlands in Hamburg, the Braunschweig native hinted for the first time at a time frame for ending his career.
His contract with the Brooklyn Nets runs until summer 2025 – by then Schröder will soon be 32 years old. But first the Summer Games are coming up. “Actually, it’s always been a goal of mine to take part in the Olympic Games. Nothing is guaranteed.”
Schröder wants to take everything with him. “Being at the opening ceremony. That’s something I just want to see and experience with my family and my teammates. Then we’ll start playing against Japan.”
Less than 24 hours after the opening ceremony, the Olympic co-favorite will play its first group match against Japan (July 27, 1:30 p.m.) in the Lille metropolitan region. In Group B, Brazil awaits on July 30 and Olympic host France on August 2.
First the Olympics, then back to the Bundesliga
In addition to the Olympics, the NBA professional from the Brooklyn Nets has another plan – he wants to return to the Basketball Bundesliga. In an interview with BR some time ago, Schröder revealed that after his NBA career he wanted to come to his hometown of Braunschweig and win another championship with the club: “That is my big goal.”
Schröder is the main shareholder of the Basketball Lions and played in Braunschweig for two years before his NBA career.
