Football officials, kings, princes, singers and top politicians: Rarely do so many well-known faces come together for a single event as for the final of a European or World Cup. It was of course no different at Euro 2024. The rows of spectators in Berlin were peppered with top celebrities.
Not only celebrities like Ed Sheeran were rooting for their team, but almost all of Berlin’s political community was also in the stadium. In addition to Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Annalena Baerbock, Friedrich Merz, Karl Lauterbach and Manuela Schwesig were also there.
Royal visit to the European Championship final
The game also decided which royal would be allowed to join in the celebrations on the field. Unfortunately, the English defeat meant that Prince William and his son George were denied the opportunity. At the end, King Felipe VI raised the trophy in the air. King Charles III was not present, but later sent a message to the English national coach Garteh Sotuhgate. It said: “Anyone who has ever taken part in sporting activities will know how despairing one can feel after such a result when the prize was so close – and they will join me in expressing sympathy, even as we congratulate Spain.”
