Before the British Open, Tiger Woods feels in good physical shape. An imminent retirement from golf is out of the question for the 48-year-old superstar.
Despite his lack of success, Tiger Woods is not thinking about retiring from golf. “I will play as long as I can and I feel that I can still win the tournament,” said the now 48-year-old superstar from California at a press conference before the 152nd British Open in Troon, Scotland. The 15-time major winner thus countered advice from Scotland’s golf legend Colin Montgomerie (61), who had suggested that Woods should give up golf.
Woods’ last tournament victory was almost five years ago. In October 2019, the long-time world number one won the ZOZO Championship in Japan. After his numerous operations and the serious car accident in February 2021, in which he broke his right leg several times, he only competes in a few select tournaments.
The 82-time PGA Tour champion feels well prepared for the British Open, which will be played at the Royal Troon Golf Club on the west coast of Scotland starting this Thursday. “I’ve been training a lot better. We’ve been working pretty hard in the gym, which has been good,” said Woods. His body is in good shape and that is also transferring to his golf game.
