After Lena Oberdorf was unable to take part in the Olympic football tournament due to injury, a replacement has now been chosen. National coach Hrubesch has also nominated a reserve.
National coach Horst Hrubesch has called up Janina Minge from VfL Wolfsburg to replace the injured Lena Oberdorf in the squad for the Olympic football tournament. Pia-Sophie Wolter from Eintracht Frankfurt has been nominated as a possible replacement in Minge’s place, as the German Football Association (DFB) announced.
The German national football team’s first game at the Olympics will be against Australia on Thursday in Marseille. The other games in the group phase will be against the USA (July 28) and Zambia (July 31).
Midfielder Oberdorf suffered a cruciate and medial ligament injury in her right knee during the 4-0 win in the European Championship qualifier against Austria. The 22-year-old will also be missing for a long time from German champions FC Bayern Munich, to whom she recently transferred from VfL Wolfsburg.
