Martin Demichelis will no longer be the coach of River Plate after a year and a half in charge due to a series of poor results, the club announced in a statement.
“Following a decision taken by mutual agreement with the club’s top authorities, Martín Demichelis has left his position as coach of the professional team,” River said on its official X account.
The club also indicated that Demichelis will coach River for the last time on Sunday in the home match against Sarmiento de Junín in the eighth round of the Professional League.
Demichelis took over in 2022 with the task of succeeding Marcelo Gallardo, who left after eight and a half years in charge as the coach with the most titles in the club’s history.
In his year and a half as coach, the 43-year-old won three titles without convincing the fans, which influenced his departure after 86 games.
In the current championship, River has only obtained one victory in the last five games played.
“River Plate thanks Demichelis for his enormous professionalism, commitment and respect for our shirt, and for the three titles he has won,” River Plate concluded in the statement.
