Bundesliga: Not only in sporting terms: VfB is also on the right track economically

After financially difficult years, the Swabian Champions League participant can report a small profit. This is due to various factors.

After difficult years, VfB Stuttgart is also on the road to economic recovery. For the first time since 2019, the Bundesliga football club reported a small profit in the 2023 financial year. The annual result of VfB Stuttgart 1893 AG, to which the club’s professional football is outsourced, was around 700,000 euros, explained CEO Alexander Wehrle at the general meeting and spoke of a “black zero”. The “financial turnaround” had been achieved.

After the financially difficult Corona pandemic, the runner-up’s turnover rose by more than 40 percent to 217.9 million euros within a year. In 2022 it was still at 154.8 million euros. The significant increase is also largely due to the financially lucrative sale of players such as Konstantinos Mavropanos, Wataru Endo and other key players, who, according to VfB CFO Thomas Ignatzi, brought in around 55 million euros gross for VfB’s coffers.
