Paris surrenders at the feet of another gold for Simone Biles, the owner of gymnastics history

Simone Biles recovered the throne of the gym which he had lost in Tokyo by winning the all-around gold, his second triumph in the Olympic Games Paris 2024after an exciting final where Brazilian Rebeca Andrade came second, revalidating the silver she won three years ago.

Biles, who had already won the team gold on Tuesday, thus adds her sixth Olympic title and her ninth medal at the Games.

Behind Andrade, the podium that distinguishes the most complete gymnasts was closed by the American Sunisa Leewho had won gold in this event in Tokyo.

Back in the elite after overcoming the mental block that gripped her in Japan, where she left with a silver and a bronze, no one in Paris wants to miss every time the most decorated gymnast in history comes out to compete.

In the stands, former athletes such as Zinedine Zidane and Tony Parker watched every detail, and some members of the US team, such as Stephen Curry, used their cell phones to record part of the exercises during a thrilling competition.

Although Andrade took the lead before the third rotation, after a less brilliant performance by Biles on the uneven bars, the winner of 23 world titles regained control in the final stretch and sealed her second gold in the queen event of gymnastics, after the one she had achieved in Rio 2016, with a spectacular floor exercise that brought the stadium to its feet.

With his triumph, Biles becomes the first gymnast to win the Olympic title in this event in two non-consecutive editions.

The American also now surpasses the legend in Olympic gold medals Nadia Comaneciwhich won five, and is only behind Larisa Latyninawith nine, and Vera Caslavskawith seven.

Her tally could increase in the coming days if she medals in the vault, balance beam or floor finals, for which she also qualified.

For Andrade, who on Tuesday led Brazil to an unprecedented bronze in her country’s team gymnastics, Thursday’s win is her second silver in the all-around competition, in which she also came as world runner-up, and her fourth medal at the Games.
