Two members of the British team saved the life of a coach of the Uzbek boxing team. Tulkin Kilichev suffered a cardiac arrest while celebrating after his boxer Hasanboy Dusmatov won the Olympics. Doctor Harj Singh and physiotherapist Robbie Lillis said they rushed to help. “The (Uzbek) coaching team came back to the warm-up area and everyone was celebrating, and then screams came from that area that had nothing to do with celebrating,” Lillis reported. “Harj was the first to react and I followed with the emergency bag that we have with us.”
Singh performed CPR and Lillis used a defibrillator. “At first he didn’t come back to consciousness, but about 20 to 30 seconds later, after Harj continued CPR, he suddenly regained consciousness, which was great,” said Lillis. The two handed Kilichev over to the medical staff at the Roland Garros venue. The coach was taken to a hospital and received further treatment there.
