The province’s tourism has a park that is recognized worldwide for preserving more than 220 species of animals.

He Yala Provincial Park It is one of the main attractions of Jujuy because it allows you to enjoy the natural tourism just a short distance from the capital of the region. This 4,300 hectare reserve has six lagoonswhere you can see cormorants, torrent ducks, lyre-billed nightjars, corn ducks, lesser coots, Andean gulls, and kite hummingbirds, among many other species that share the limelight of the park. The richness of the place is recognized worldwide and it is classified as an Important Area for the Conservation of Birds (AICA) and Bats (AICOM) by BirdLife International.

What activities can I do in the Potrero de Yala Provincial Park, Jujuy?

Nature is the park’s main attraction. Here you can walk along its trails, go on a photo safari and venture into the mountains to go trekking at points up to 5,400 meters above sea level. You can also camp under the stars to enjoy a completely natural environment. The latter can only be done in the designated areas, which are located near the shores of the Rodeo lagoon and on the Montane Forest trail.

For lovers of hiking and adventure, there are options of different difficulties and lengths. These are:

  • Corral Redondo Trail. Low difficulty. It starts at Rodeo lagoon and runs for almost 1 km.
  • Viewpoints Trail. Low difficulty. It starts at Rodeo lagoon and covers almost 2.5 km.
  • Mountain Forest Trail. Low difficulty. It starts at the Comedero lagoon and runs for 1.6 km.

In addition, there are two other unmarked trails:

  • Peri Laguna Rodeo Trail. Low difficulty. It starts at Rodeo lagoon and runs for 1.7 km.
  • Planks Trail. Medium difficulty. It starts at Rodeo lagoon and covers 3.2 km.

Another strong point of the reserve is its Yala, Los Noques, Larga, Alizar, Comedero, Desaguadero and Rodeo lagoons. This last one is the only one where it is enabled fishing Only on weekends and with a valid fishing license. These are issued by the Provincial Directorate of Environmental Policies and Natural Resources.

How to get to Potrero de Yala Provincial Park, Jujuy

To get to the park From San Salvador de Jujuy you have to travel a distance of 44 kilometersuntil reaching the town of Los Nogales. There you can access the reserve, after crossing a road that crosses Provincial Route 4 and Provincial Route 9.
