The Secretary of Mining, Luis Luceroparticipated in the seventh edition of the Chilean-Argentine Mining Meeting in the neighboring country and highlighted the importance of the Treaty on Mining Integration and Complementation signed between Argentina and Chile. He assured that he is “in force in terms of mining cooperation and integration, which is a global example.”
During his speech, the Argentine official highlighted “what Chile has done in terms of development of its mining industry” and what “Copper has been and is for its economy”. He also stressed: “Both countries have a current treaty on mining cooperation and integration that is a global example.”.
In turn, Lucero referred to the Treaty on Mining Integration and Complementation signed between Argentina and Chile and assured that “it has been very valuable in allowing exploration work on the very important copper projects discovered in Argentine territory” and that “will surely contribute to its development and operation in the near future.”
“Chile and Argentina have a unique opportunity today due to the circumstances that are opening up due to the global decision to migrate the energy matrix towards the electromobility, renewable energy and abandoning energy generated by fossil fuels,” said the head of Mining.
Chilean-Argentine Mining Meeting: the details
The Meeting also featured meetings between the authorities of the Treaty Administration Commission, which had not met since 2019to evaluate the protocols that are being worked on with companies that are at different stages in the Vicuña District, where projects from both sides of the mountain range converge. In this sense, the aim is to facilitate the procedures so that they can advance and get closer to their implementation.
The event was organized jointly by the Embassies of both nations and the Chilean-Argentine Chamber of Commerce, in addition to national and provincial authorities.
In addition to Lucero, other political leaders, the Mining Chambers of both countries also participated in the meeting (Sonami and CAEM), from suppliers such as Aprimin and AIC from Chile, and Capmin from Argentina
For their part, project executives also joined in. Pascua Lama, Josemaria, Edge of the Sun and The Blues, who gave detailed information about their characteristics, the status of their investments and the degree of progress they have reached.
