Being at the forefront of a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) In Argentina, it requires entrepreneurs to develop a large number of personal capabilities and skills that are not necessary under the same conditions in other countries.
The swinging policies of the governments in power are completely asymmetrical and force us to make permanent adjustments in the way we cost, produce and sell the products that are manufactured.
Immersed in an economy that depends on foreign products to finish domestic ones, there is almost no industrial production chain that is exhausted within our borders. We are historically affected, for example, by in the lack of currencies to import a large part of the inputs necessary for production.
That eternal groundhog day is simply the reality of the entrepreneur SME: far from bank financing –which is abundant in other countries–, and immersed in aggressive economic conditions, which impede the development of production, make producing in Argentina a heroic task.
The entrepreneurs SME We know what it means to pay a fortnight, we know each and every one of our collaborators, since they are our main asset and we do not have problems with money laundering because all our capital is invested in the factories.
I heard that the SMEs They must be efficient, competitive, they must export and incorporate personnel, and the State must not have any interference in the sector. I don’t agree.
The State always has influence – generally negative – and must act as an arbitrator in the market to create ideal conditions and increase the productivity of the sector. We must have an expanding economy in order to grow and be sustainable, and this is an obligation of the State.
This is not the time to write data, statistics or descriptions of the sector, they are not needed. Those of us who work in small and medium-sized companies know what we have to do, which is to undertake against all odds and opinions. That is why I celebrate Industry Day, as I admire all the good that SMEs do for our country, anonymously and alone.
