After two of three disciplines, Max Gelhaar is in the lead. Then a Spaniard takes off. The water levels of the Seine were back to normal after the postponed start.
Triathlete Max Gelhaar has won the silver medal at the Paralympics. The 26-year-old, who has spastic paralysis on one side of his body, crossed the finish line in Paris on the historic Pont Alexandre III bridge in second place behind Spaniard Daniel Molina in 1:08:43 hours.
Gelhaar was already in the leading group after the swim in the Seine. After the 20-kilometer bike course, the German triathlete took the lead before the Spaniard Molina came closer on the running lap and quickly overtook Gelhaar. The Dutchman Nico van der Burgt came third.
The race was postponed by one day on Sunday morning because the water levels of the Seine had not yet provided sufficient results.
The German flag bearer and gold favorite Martin Schulz starts at 12.20 p.m.
