The beginning of the official document reads: “The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has made the decision to revoke, immediately, the approval granted to the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil to exercise the representation of the interests of the Argentine Republic and its nationals in Venezuelan territory, as well as the custody of the premises of the diplomatic mission, including its assets and archives, as announced in the joint statement dated August 5, 2024.”
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil said that both Brazil and Argentina were notified of the measure through “diplomatic channels.” In the text, the Venezuelan government assured that the administration was forced to make the decision “motivated by evidence of the use of the diplomatic mission’s facilities for planning terrorist activities and assassination attempts against the Constitutional President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, and against the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez Gómez, by the fugitives from Venezuelan justice who remain inside.”
Brazil’s response
Following the decision of the Maduro government, Brazil issued a statement released by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
